AREA TEENS EARN SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FROM THE FIRST TEE®
ROCKY HILL, CT – Allen Hansrisuk of Glastonbury and Marissa Noto of Beacon Falls, both members of The First Tee of Connecticut, have earned the designation of The First Tee Scholar - Class of 2010. Both Allen and Marissa now have the opportunity to apply for any educational scholarship programs offered through The First Tee to attend a participating college or university.
Hansrisuk, 18, is a senior at Glastonbury High School. Allen is an Eagle Certified Level member within The First Tee of Connecticut levels program and has been with the TFTCT for over five years in our Hartford-area programs. He has been to several First Tee national or regional events including the Northeast Challenge in Washington DC, the Life Skills Academy in Kansas and The First Tee Pebble Beach qualifier, also in Kansas. Allen also assists teaching younger TFTCT students at our facility in Cromwell adjacent to TPC River Highlands.
Noto, 18, is a senior at Woodland High School. Marissa is an Eagle Level member as well and participates in our Waterbury-area program. She has been a member for over 6 years, playing on the Waterbury area Eagle Team during the summer. Marissa embodies the leadership skills and characteristics that define The First Tee Scholars.
“We are proud to have both Allen and Marissa represent The First Tee of Connecticut as First Tee Scholars,” says Ian Baxter, Director Programs for The First Tee of Connecticut. “This is a great distinction and both are worthy recipients. They have been members almost since the beginning of our program, and it is great to see them blossom in front of our eyes these past years. We look forward to hearing great things from both Allen and Marissa in the future.”
The First Tee Scholars Program, which began in 2001, recognizes participants for exceptional achievement in academics, leadership, character development, and Chapter and community involvement. Since 2003, the program has designated 295 Scholars and has awarded 78 named scholarships. Several schools throughout the United States have partnered with The First Tee to offer merit-based scholarships that help to offset the cost of attending a college or university.
